Bass Coast is a visitor’s dream. Take your time exploring its diverse range of landscapes from peaceful and pristine beaches to hinterland villages. Enjoy local produce at boutique cafes, restaurants, wineries and breweries. Be amazed by the wonderful wildlife and delightful attractions all year round.

If you don’t mind a bit of active exploration, trek along the cliffs of Kilcunda, witness majestic whales from the whale trail  or follow the many walking tracks strung along the coastline.

Cycle the famous Bunurong Coast Road from Inverloch to Cape Paterson (25km return), or take a less travelled route and discover the views from the back hills through Kernot and Grantville (40+km depending on route). For those looking for a gentle ride without competing with road traffic, follow the Bass Coast Rail trail from Wonthaggi all the way to Anderson (23km).

Most of these trails stumble upon, start or finish at local gems: cafes where you can find local produce like the Kernot store and Kilcunda general store, wineries like the popular Purple Hen on Phillip Island and Dirty Three in Inverloch where you can sample the vines of Bass Coast, microbreweries, and tonnes of cafes and restaurants in the  towns of Cowes, San Remo, Wonthaggi and Inverloch. Perfect places to refuel in between all the exploring.

If you’ve bought the family (or if you’re simply a kid at heart), you can’t miss out on one of Australia’s most adorable attractions, the Phillip Island Penguin Parade. Australia’s first dinosaur bone was found on Inverloch beach, visit the dinosaur footprints at low tide and do some excavations of your own with local dinosaur diggers.

You are also bound to be thrilled by many of Phillip Island’s attractions including the chocolate factory, maze, Churchill Island and koala conservation park – just to name a few!

When the weather forces you indoors, take some time discovering the many art galleries, museums, including the National Vietnam Vets Museum and shops Bass Coast has to offer.

Bass Coast truly has something for everyone.
